Recruiting the Right People

 

Effective recruitment and selection is the first vital step in building a winning team. This workshop provides an overview of those crucial areas necessary for effective and efficient recruitment and selection, with a particular focus on designing and conducting effective interviews. The training covers the key elements of a recruitment and selection process from creating a competency based job description and person specification, through using various recruitment channels, screening and short-listing applicants, and designing and conducting competency based selection processes.

During the workshop, participants will build their interview skills through preparing questions and practicing questioning techniques in role plays. Structures for interviews will be examined as well as ways in which to create a productive interview environment.

 

This workshop is suitable for line managers and HR and development professionals new to recruitment and selection, or those who would appreciate an update of their knowledge and skills.

After this workshop, participants should be able to:

  • identify the key elements of an effective recruitment and selection process
  • put together an appropriate person specification comprising well-written competencies 
  • select appropriate recruitment channels
  • identify the characteristics of effective advertisements which will attract the right candidates
  • apply questioning techniques for gathering accurate and detailed information from the candidate
  • prepare competency-based interview questions
  • apply techniques to assess answers in competency based interviews including using a ratings scale to evaluate answers        
  • generate sample drill down questions to ask  to get more information from the candidate
  • rank candidates suitability for the position based on interview performance
  • explain steps to follow up after an interview and complete the hiring process
